No surprise there. O'Reilly is a great big sloppy mess.
Malmedy's surviving culprits were prosecuted and punished, and were SS or Waffen SS (I forget). The quintessential fanatical Nazi (his purported last words, when he didn't in Franco's Spain, were "long live Adolf Hitler!") Otto Skorzeny predictably enough defended the officer who had the massacre carried out.

Tell Bill that the Malmedy massacre was carried out by the 9th SS Pioneers [Engineers] of Kampfgruppe Peiper [SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Jochen Peiper], of the 1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler". Somewhere between 130 and 170 American artillerymen who had been taken prisoner near the Malmedy crossroads were murdered. The man who fired the first shot was an SS Sturmmann named Georg Phleps. Convicted along with Peiper at Nuremberg were SS Oberstgruppenfuhrer Josef "Sepp" Dietrich, CG, 6th SS Panzer Army, Hermann Priess, SS Brigadefuhrer and 6th SS pz. Army C/S, and the divisional commander. If Bill has questions, have him call me. I'll invite him into my "No BS/Bloviation Zone"

It was, of course, precisely the opposite, but the learned Mr. O'Reilly seemed not to know that, nor did General Clark correct him........Seems logical that they leave the truth detection to FREEREPUBLIC.....

What distresses me is OReily's threatening remarks when a person has the "nerve" to refuse to appear on his show....then there is that ego thing going on....WOW!
Otherwise, I like his intensive & relentless follow up questioning...

To be honest, I thought O'Reilly was confusing the scene from Saving Private Ryan with reality.

No one else has brought this point up, which I feel is the main issue in this entire topic, that being BOR's response to a viewer email.
Here is what BOR said on the air:
"In Malmedy, as you know, U.S. forces captured S.S. forces who had their hands in the air and were unarmed and they shot them dead, you know that. That's on the record. And documented."
Here is what the viewer email read:
"Bill, you mentioned Malmedy as the site of an American massacre during World War II. It was the other way around, the SS shot down U.S. prisoners".
Here is the very brief (and bizarre) response to the email:
"In the heat of the debate with General Clark, my statement wasn't clear enough... after Malmedy, some German captives were executed by American troops".
That was his only comment on the subject.
I don't fault BOR for the initial mistake, we all make them, however, his evasive, non-accountability response is inexcusable. Then, when you see he went out of his way to change the transcripts on the website, it becomes even more disappointing.
I would have a lot more respect for him if he simply said, "You are correct, I had my facts wrong with regard to Malmedy, I apologize for the error".
