God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
- Psalm 46:1-3

You shall have no other gods before me
- Exodus 20:3

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- John 14:6 (words of Jesus Christ)

Washington's Prayer for the United States of America

Almighty God
we make our earnest prayer
that Thou will keep the United States
in Thy Holy Protection:
that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens
to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government;
and
to entertain a brotherly affection and love
for one another
and
their fellow citizens of the United States at large.
And finally
that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased
to dispose us to do justice,
to love mercy,
and
to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind
which were the characteristics
of the
Divine Author of our blessed religion,
and
without a humble imitation
of whose example in these things
we can never hope to be a happy Nation.
Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

I'm not American, why should I pray for America?

Everyone will admit that America's foreign policy has global effects. Therefore, it is logical, to pray that America's leaders are doing God's will! This will have your best interest at heart.
How should we pray? (Intercessory Prayer)

Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven
Intercessory Prayer is how we can love others by asking God to fulfill their needs. It is asking God to bless others.

It is the prayer of Job for his friends.
It is the prayer of Jesus for His disciples.
It is the prayers of Paul for his churches and disciples.
Every day at noon, say a simple prayer for America and its leaders to do God's will.

Oh heavenly father,
please give America and its leaders
knowledge and wisdom
to know and do your will
and grant them protection from their enemies
in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
What to do next?

Ask others to join you at lunch to say a simple prayer.
Ask others to start their own lunch prayer group for America.
Ask your fellow church members to do the same
Ask your pasture to ask other pastures to do the same within their churches.

Why should one Pray for a Country?

Benjamin Franklin, certainly one of the least religious of the Founding Fathers and co-authors of the Declaration of Independence, reminded his fellow delegates at the Constitutional Convention of 1787 for the need prayer in and by our government bodies said it best.
"In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for the Divine protection. Our prayers, sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor... And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance? I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth-that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, sir, in the Sacred Writings, that "except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel:... I therefore beg leave to move-that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business."

It is self evident that our founding fathers wanted prayer in our government. In fact to this day, because of the wishes of those that wrote the Declaration of Independence (the corner stone of government within The United States of America), we begin every session of congress with a prayer.
We must remember that our founding fathers wanted separation of state from church, not church form state. They wanted to prevent our government from forcing "one" religion on a government, as did King Henry VIII. However, they wanted religion in our government.

In fact, since the beginning of The United States of America, it was the intention of our great leaders to have religion in our government:

In God We Trust, is in every coin
The 10 Commandments is behind the Supreme Court Justices
etc.
God and Governments

Psalm 106:23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
Therefore he (God) said
would destroy them (The Nation of Israel)
had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach
Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none

Therefore, it is self evident that God expects us to "stand in the gap" before him for the land (Nation). The only way we can do this is through our prayers!

Exodus 17:11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
Moses held up his hand (Holding up one's hands means Praying).
12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

So, only while Moses prayed did he prevail. Therefore, it is essential that we pray, continually.
