From foes that would the land devour,
From guilty pride and lust of power,
From wild sedition’s lawless hour,
From yoke of slavery,

From blinded zeal by faction led,
From giddy change by fancy bred,
From poisonous error’s serpent head
Good Lord, preserve us free!

Defend, O God! with guardian hand,
The laws and rulers of our land,
And grant thy church Thy grace to stand
In faith and unity!

To: Knitting A Conundrum; All

My prayer tonight will consist of reading the Battle Hymn of the Republic. So our leaders and soldiers and border police may find strength and courage and wisdom.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally …let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

I have a great CD of US military songs and instrumentals, and I get choked up each Memorial Day, Flag Day and July 4th when I play it. It includes the Battle Hymn, of course. :o)

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who gets all blubbering and choked up over certain Scriptures and beautiful quotes.

I get choked up, especially as it pertains to America. I am a firm believer that God gave this wonderful country to our forefathers. So it gets me choked up to see our political leaders and Military invoke scripture and the Almighty. We are the "last, best hope of mankind".

I agree with you totally.

I was just recounting to someone else the day my Dad called me up on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day, and I still cry over that. He was in the Invasion of Normandy.

And thankfully he survived. The blood of God fearing patriots freeing the world of Fascism will resonate from France to Iraq.

I am in agreement.

I Decree and Declare that Satan and all his works are DEFEATED in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!

Amen. Thank you, Jesus!

* Speak those things that are not as though they were (Ro. 4:17)

Speak to what has not yet become what it is supposed to be.

* When you pray your desires, believe … and you shall have them (Mark 11:24)

Communicate to God what you want in faith and you shall have them.

* God spoke by faith and God saw what He said (Gen 1 & Heb. 11:3)

God spoke to nothing and His faith in His Word caused something to appear.

* Speak the Word only (Mat. 8:8)

You cannot afford to say or decree anything but the Word.

* When you pray, say: Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done (Matt. 6:9-10)

Jesus say’s that the Kingdom of God is defined as His will which is made known in His Word, and that we are to pray what His will/Word is.

* You overcome the devil by … and the Word of your testimony (Rev. 12:11)

Your victory over Satan and his strategies will be given to you thru you testifying and stating the Word of God.

* Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Pro. 18:21)

Your words have the power to destroy and to resurrect.

* Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matt. 16:19)

Your words have the power to withhold and the power to release things that have been tied up.

I certainly do not believe God answers all prayers in the affirmative or as we would expect, but we can be certain He wants us to ask and to believe.

I agree. I believe prayers are answered, but not always in an exptected way...God has a better way!

I will commit to praying on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the EDT 4PM half-hour slot. I'm in CDT. Will pray for discernment and integrity among our elected officials; for peace and perseverance among the populace; and for God's will to prevail, whatever that may mean. For more selfish reasons, I will also lament in anger and frustration about what is happening to this country.
