"The soundboard is Redwood that was salvaged from a wine vat built at Sabastiani winery in California in the year 1918, it held wine until it was dismantled in 1972 (which coincidentally was the year I started building musical instruments)."

1918. Downright surreal.

I've heard of wood from old buildings being used for instruments as well; also wood from submerged timber. It's something I love about wood instruments...not only do they have a history of their own, but they also have the history of where the wood came from. Gives them a bit of a spirit, ya know? If that doesn't sound kooky.

My Dad plays violin, and his instrument is over a hundred years old. Neat to think where it may have been and what it's seen.
