Does he like being in Kuwait? My friends in the service who were there said they did--they were well received there by the residents and the society is relatively westernized.

His FOB is basically in the middle of nowhere, so the only contact he has with residents is with those who are employees on the base; and yes, they are very grateful for the military presence and treat the guys just great.

When he is not on duty or on patrol, there is not much to do in his "down time". IOW, boredom is a factor. They were having fun hunting lizards for a while, until they found out that the poisonous scorpions like to hide out in the same holes. So that put a stop to the lizard hunts.:)

The time he has spent in Iraq has been interesting to him. It's the only time they get to see kids, and they (the kids) just coming running right up to them whenever they stop the convoy, asking for water & candy, mostly water though.
