Heck, in Norway, an old man was fined for peeling his apple with a pocketnife while resting on a park bench...

First the firearms were taken from all but the criminals, then the blades.
Whats next, sticks and stones?

What's Captain Dunsil doing with a Klingon weapon?
(You have to be a REAL Trek afficianado to get this joke... ;)
From one of my fave episodes, "The Ultimate Computer". William "Blacula" Marshall was great in that one - "M5, this is your creator!"
Yeah, I'm a hopeless Trek geek!

He said: It is likely to be supported by the law-abiding public and not those who carry knives for criminal activity.
Knife crime will only get worse if we dont introduce a five-year mandatory sentence for anyone carrying a knife. I thought this was satire. Geez-o-Pete, is there really a knife amnesty going on? Good thing my boys have an official Totin' Chip so they can carry.

Thankfully, the Brits are no friends of the French . . . but . . .
in this case, they join them far too much in
le theatre d'absurd.

You and me both my FRiend. When installing (or reinstalling) Windows, I always name my machine "M5" ;)
As an FYI, one of William Marshall's latter gigs was portraying the "King of Cartoons" on the famous (now infamous) "Pee Wee's Playhouse".
As a matter of fact, Mr. Marshall passed away barely 3 years ago (June '03) from Alzheimers. He was a very fine actor.
As for Dr. Richard Daystrom, I always thought it would have been a great plot development (almost as good as the revival of Khan in the second Trek motion picture) if he had been rehabilitated from his nervous breakdown, and in a post-M5 environment managed to re-create (from the raw data in the Enterprise computer systems) the hybrid "Nomad" probe (from "The Changeling"), designating it (what else?) "M6". ;)
In the original series, my favorite character (for reasons I will not expound upon - lol ;) was Yeoman Rand, played by Grace Lee Whitney. :)

A great line from McCoy, although the scene did seem like it was lifted from the original Trek pilot (pre-Shatner), where Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) is agonizing over the loss of crew members, and his ship's doctor (Dr Boyce, played by John Hoyt) shows up to mix him a martini right there in the Captain's quarters.
Ironically, there are rumors that the scene you refer to could be in an upcoming Trek film guest starring Dennis Kucinich, in "The Ultimate Chicken". ;)

You won't need those in England either after they get through banning meat and dairy products to please PETA. You can cut your soyburger with your fork. Wait, forks have points that might be used as a weapon, so the government will ban forks and there will be spoons only.

Knife amnesty? The UK has been 'done' for a while now. This is scene two in the theatre of the absurd. Knife amnesty? Batleth weapons? Please. We're way beyond that.
This thing could take out a planet!
