Zuit!
Mexico is even closer and they're already at war with us...
Well, Hildy, I would like to see some of the responses you get. My sister, a 50something birkenstocking vomit-liberal from Seattle, the second-favorite City of Satan, who hasn't spoken to me for about 30 years, suddenly sends me an email from out of the blue, saying that she is coming to town for her class reunion and wants to get together!
Well, I would rather French-kiss Abu Musab al-Zarqawi than spend "quality time" with my mother's other offspring, who is no relative of mine, but that would be bad form, you know?
Which they should, but still...
It may well be hopeless. . .but hate to see you just give up. . .
As timeless wisdom offers. . . 'when the student is ready. . .the teacher appears'. And Lefties are innoculated against just such an event. . .but there is always a 'perhaps' and maybe you can help just a little here, nonetheless. . .
You might ask her if she is willing to read a book about someone who has been as committed as she is. . .and who now sees the world differently. . .
OR . .perhaps more easily suggest a website like Jewish World Review - where 'excellence' is the norm for political discourse. . .
Suggest a few blogs that are 'fair' and even-handed. . .ie. powerline.com/ The American Thinker. . . You could suggest David Horowitz's autobiographical 'Radical Son' (during sixties he was a committed 'radical'. . .grew up w/communist parents/communist Party/New York. . .)
David tells how and why. . .he eventually experienced 'enlightenment' so to speak (!) and what it is like on the 'inside' of Left-wing radicalism. You could suggest his website (FrontlineMagazine)
And then there is Ann Coulter's. . .How to talk to a Liberal. . .a good read. . .
(You might discuss w/her the historical symmetry between nazism and Islamism. . .as well. . .)
Maybe just give her a list of names of those who are Jewish and who WERE committed Lefties - but 'switched' . . .despite 'knowing'/learning the same things she has. . .
OR. . .you could make a bet with her and have her listen to Rush for two weeks! LOL. . .OR challenge her to read one of his books. . .
Whatever, should you 'go there' or other places . .good luck!
Ha...What's that then, a conundrum???
Guess she figures then, she is going to take her money and some of ours with her...
Thanks. . .a picture is worth those 'thousand words' for sure. . .The above is a book. . .
The most troubling thing (to me) was her idea that Christians desire to convert Israel to Christianity. One way to handle a remark like that is just to reply with this question: "Got any proof?" As few words as possible, and as little inflection as possible. Try not to sound angry, try not to sound outraged, try not to sound surprised. Your goal is to say it so fast and with such a neutral tone that she doesn't interpret it as a belligerent remark (and it won't be belligerent, of course). Your goal is to make her stop and think.
If you succeed in this, she will probably just drop the subject or change the subject. She may say something like "well, all I know is the Republicans worry me" or "well, I still think Bush is a liar." This is a face-saving retreat, of course, but if she has any shred of intellectual honesty, your question will linger in her memory, and may come back later, and may catalyze a change of heart.
This, like many of her positions, cannot really be "disproved," as by some process of logic, or by the Socratic method, in learned dialog a la Professor Kingsfield. This is because her positions don't spring from flawed logic; they spring from ignorance. You cannot argue someone out of a position of ignorance. You can only educate them. You cannot educate them, however, until they realize their ignorance.
(steely)
I like your style!! I do believe I'll try that. Thanks!
LOL!
"The right wing C. Evangelicals who have taken over the Rep. party and want Armageddon also have this agenda for Jews - those who will not convert to Christianity will be killed,"
Please help me
Sorry, but this right wing evangelical used up his whole supply of cans of Zyklon B during the last World War.
She's rich.
Well that changes things. Is she available?
"(my husband is already on Medicare)"
Er, never mind that last question. A rich Dem has her husband on Medicare. She too cheapskate to reach into her own pocket?
WELL THAT INFURIATED ME SO MUCH, I wrote her back a scathing personal letter saying that since she chose to insult me and half the people in the country she could take her superior attitude and shove it up her ass. I didn't need her in my life so GET LOST. IT FELT SO GOOD!!!!!! She was a new acquaintence I met at a spa last month. I also put her on my email blocker so I won't even see what she replies. I GOT THE LAST WORD and it was a good one!!!!!
Thanks for all your input. See my post above, #76!
Y'know, you tried, you really did. Chalk this one up to her being a freak and move on. You're better off without toxicity like that in your life!
"I GOT THE LAST WORD and it was a good one!!!!!"
LOL!
