That is horrible! I feel sorry for your poor little guys. Good thing the offending dogs were killed. I really wish people would just keep their dogs contained. If it's in the city, there are children, and in the country there's livestock. Either way, nowadays there's no excuse for strays.

We live on a ranch in the country. The trouble we have is that when some people no longer want their dogs they bring them out here and dump them. Sometimes it's because they already had behavioral problems with the dogs. Often, people don't want to put the dogs down, and think they will straighten up if they have room to roam. Many believe that a rancher will take them in. That almost never happens, and you can see why. Ranchers must be able to trust their dogs with the livestock. Ranchers will usually only take in a full grown dog if it is a dependable breed, like a collie. Otherwise, they'd rather start with a puppy to train. What happens to these poor dogs is that they get dumped. They wait for the owner to return until they are starving. Then they go hunt. If there is more than one they pack. Once they've killed, you won't get them to stop. The dogs that got our calves had already killed a neighbor's rabbits. I'm willing to bet that's not all they killed. We've decided that we will no longer take chances when strays start hanging around. The risk is too great!
