I hope he survives, I really do, but if he doesn't, I hope all of the school kids in Maryland will avoid the mystery meat next fall.

Nice. Why don't you take your 7th-grade comments to another thread.

"I still love and fondly remember a horse named Boston which I rode a quarter century ago. Love that horse. He loved to jump. With or without a rider."

Love that Boston jumped with or without a rider. Quite a guy! That really made me smile.

Years ago I rode and rode and rode and....well, you know, a horse named Topper. Finest horse I ever knew. Handsome dapple grey fellow w/ super gaits and a sweetheart temperament.

Topper and I were once rear-ended by a novice rider who plowed into the back of him/us at a full canter. He bolted, I fell under him - but only because I wasn't at full attention. He stopped within a few feet, walked back to where I was, and sniffed my face. Swell fella in every way.

On the few occasions when I was riding another horse in stadium jumping, Boston would jump into the ring, riderless, and follow us through the jumps.

He was priceless, a true champion.

Oh, my word! That's the most amazing story I've ever heard. Yeah, I'd go along with priceless champion where Boston was concerned. I can only imagine how the crowd must have reacted. Come to think of it, that boy needed his own television show. Too cute.

I am sorry. I really hope the best. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

From USA Today Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro was "bright and appropriately frisky" Monday after surgery from his broken hind leg, even showing an interest in mares, but the colt still faces a long and perilous road to recovery.

Typical man. Only cares about sex.

In the grand biological scheme of things, that's all that matters - reproduction.

Maybe they should hook him up with that philly from a few years back.

No problem. Sorry, for being testy but the animal lovers on these threads are often made to feel stupid for caring. :)

Just heard a report that Barbaro is scratching his ear with his injured leg. In nurse-speak, we call that "able to perform activities of daily living." Great news.

Thanks for all of your great posts on this topic. I attended the Derby again this year. Have been following the story very closely.

Excellent news! (I had also heard that he was able to scratch with his uninjured leg, thus putting full weight on the bad one . . . ) either one is great!

BTW, how are YOU?

. . . ready for the next round of weather (which I pray will avoid you assiduously this year)?
