I looked on the Best Buy and Curcuit City sites. Not a lot of help there. So, I turn to the smartest and savviest folks on the planet for advice.
I want a portable unit - car and home/office. Also speakers for the latter. I have a great set of speakers in the car.
lol.. good luck.
I have resisted new gadgetry for the most part, still am dependent on the old AM signal.
Pete-r-bilt has XM , I think, pinging him.
Get well quick.
sorry to hear about the back, I know the feeling.
re' next week-end, we may end up with as many cars at the end of the coca cola 600 as last night ,, I think there were 10 or so still on the track.
Yah. I just do not understand the tire issues. It's maybe close to rocket science, but there ARE rocket scientists. Where are the TIRE scientists? Are we going to need to outsource this to get it right?
Another thing XM has is a home FM modulator. I saw it at Circuit City yesterday, This will allow you to set any and all radios in your house to XM without wires. Costs $129.
Yes. Seemed that most of the drivers (with a couple of exceptions....Smoke and Happy) took a "whatever" attitude about the whole mess.
But, the big show will be ugly, no doubt.
Are they going to continue this race? From what I heard on the radio, was not a packed house. And the new track(s) coming on - Oregon, as Norm mentioned, are going to need a week
I cannot handle George Norry George NorryGeorge Norry George Norry George Norry George Norry George Norry
So, I need this for my sanity. Plus Bob Dylan has a program. Please do not hate me for that.
Thanks beavus. That is what I am asking for.
And, finally Jr's car is probably on it's way to the scrapheap by now. What a terrible car that was. Front left tire chattering, made huge changes which didn't change a thing.
I'm headed out for a bit too, stimulating the local economy..
The track will take a bit of time to settle in, it's still somewhat 'green'..
Mark and Smoke both drank from the same cup last night, it seems. ;-)
Poor Matt and biffle, they really are nice guys,, hate to saee them gettting caught up in the mishaps so much, it just ain't fair. .. lolol
It ain't a hijacking amomg FRiends. And it's my thread.
I was not clear on the MM thing. Him running over someone is way out of character, yes?
thanks for that spectre.
Yes definitely out of character. However, having said that I noticed a change in him last week at Darlington and perhaps even at Richmond. [ not sure, I can't remember past yesterday lately] He was outwardly hostile to his pitcrew for making a mistake.
I think he wants to win so badly because this is his last year in Cup resulting in acting desperately at times. JMHO :)
BBL
Outta here - maybe buy or not. Thanks for all the input.
I do NOT recommend the "Roady" XM receiver by Delphi. It is the dinky, smaller SKYfi receiver.
I initially bought it and returned it for the SKYfi. The screen is just too small to read easily and the buttons are too close together to manipulate conveniently.
I've been with XM since 2000 and thier subscription base was about 60,000.
The cheapest way in is the Roady about $50.00
to me not worth spending your hard earned money on
I use the Ski fi 2
about $99.00 but the versatility is amazing
I have 2 head units one for me, one for the wife, which cost me $12.95 for the first and $6.99ea. a month for up to 5 more units.
I've put cradles in the Pete, home, wifes Toyota, the boat, and my pace car.
with my head unit in hand I plug it into any cradle in front of me and I'm on the air
the skyfi and roady 2 units both have a built in modulator that you can set to recieve on specific freqs. on the fm dial. the down side is this the signal gets beat up and fades if there is a powerful station close on the dial your using. My first cure was the FM modulator at about $49.00 it plugs in between the unit, stereo, and antennae, and become propriatery to the freq you assign it, if the head units on, XM is what you'll hear no muss, no fuss. The down side is that the modulator is an analog unit, if you have a good stereo its ok, but not digital.
The current technology is a digital modulator, about $39.00, it replaces the modulator box, is diract tuneing, and best of all your signal is DIGITAL!
It truly is Hi Def for stereo!
of course your system quality dictates the final product but if you have average or better componants, you will definately notice a distinct improvement in tone and makeup.
hearing things in 30 year old music you never knew was in there

Couldnot wait. Skyfi unit is discontinued. Bought the Roady. Let's see what she do.
WooHoooo!!!! That's Gittin' It Done!
congratulations...
Welcome to the XM nation!
Thank you for all the info Pete, I knew you would have the scoop!!
One day soon I will buy one myself so I can listen to Jr's show live rather than read other peoples transcripts of the show. I am printing out your info so I get the right things.
My tape deck doesn't work in the car, I hope that doesn't matter. Although I am looking for a new car. I saw a commercial for a new Dodge that looked very nice and not too small. They say it starts at 13, 500 but that probably has nothing but the bare necessities. Have to save up for the down payment, now hoping Jack is ok. He's acting weird the last few days so we're off to the vet tomorrow. :(
