Schlitz: The preferred brew of the greatest of all the New Orleans' pianists.

I just read a great collection of 260 posts about cheap beer ,although Shiner and Dixie beer weren't mentioned.
As I saw this huge list of lousy beers, I started remembering how many of them helped get me laid, man talk about cheap dates.

Aaayyy... Shiner's alright (If youre talking about the one made in, and approved by the citizens of, Shiner, TX)
To: Excuse_My_Bellicosity
relieved to see rolling rock or MGD not make the list
But having cut my teeth on utica club, pabst blue ribbon, matts splits and carling black label -this list reads like a list of fine wines

What...no Meister Brau? I can tell you from experience, the tagline is truth in advertising: Meister Brau gives you much more than you ever asked for. The flatulence alone takes off wallpaper.

I'm not a beer snob. I'll drink any cold one. It's just a plain fact that some beers should have a warning label: Nasty grog. Don't mix with onion-based foods or Doritos. The world will be better, nicer smelling place.

My beer is Rheingold the dry beer
Think of Rheingold whenever you buy beer
It's not bitter or sweet
It's a grand tasting treat
so won't you buy Rheingold beer
...or something like that. They had the Miss Rheingold contest every year and were the NY Mets first TV sponsor.

I was a teenager when I crashed a wet t-shirt contest with Shiner in kegs, if the beer were a dark beer or anything other than "American" I would have thought it was gross.
Could that have been the case 30 or so years ago?

I did a little googling and interesting enough, Miller Brewing merged with South African Breweries and is now called SABMiller. SABMiller is actually headquartered in London, England. Philip Morris Companies, Inc changed its name to Altria Group, Inc (to hide its tobacco stigma) and owns 36% interest in SABMiller.
Pabst Brewing Company, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in brewing brands that are no longer brewed by the original brewers. Olympia was first brewed by the Olympia Brewing Company in Tumwater, Washington. Pabst took over production, using the original formula, in 1983. It is characterized by low bitterness, light malt flavor, and moderate alcohol. Its light flavor is the result of the us of rice and corn with the barley malt. Their Olympia beer product, classified as an American Macro Lager took the silver medal in the 2005 Great American Beer Festival.
Pabst owns no brewery; instead, it pays other brewers, such as SABMiller and Lion Brewery, to brew the beers, while it retains ownership of the brands (Pabst Blue Ribbon, Pearl, Lone Star, Old Milwaukee, Old Style, Schlitz, and Colt 45) and markets the products. The Pabst Brewing Company is owned by the Kalmanovitz Charitable Trust.
