There are several possible factors:

Browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Konqueror all deal with images differently--each browser runs on a different engine, and thus handles images differently.

Reliability of Internet Connection: The speed of dialup and some DSL users are slower--and images may time out instead of loading.

Accessibility to server: Unless your computer is the server, the images most post here are linked to another server. If that one goes down for maintenance or has reached its limit of bandwidth, the image might not show.
