NEW YORK -- Danny Almonte isn't concerned about age -- especially when it comes to marriage.
The 19-year-old pitcher, who made headlines five years ago when his perfect game in the Little League World Series was erased because it was revealed he was two years older than league rules allowed, has married a 30-year-old woman.
Almonte, a senior at Monroe High School, married Rosy Perdomo eight months ago and the two have an apartment in the Bronx.
"She's special," Almonte told the Daily News for Friday's editions. "My family is happy for me."
Perdomo's cousin, Johira Taveras, 19, said the two have been together for years.
"It was weird," he told the newspaper of the wedding. "You have to accept it. Everybody was happy for them. He's a nice boy."
Almonte was recently chosen to play in a national high school All-Star game in New Mexico, where he'll play first base, and is expected to be drafted in June. The left-hander also has a full scholarship at New Mexico Junior College if his draft plans don't go as expected.
The native of the Dominican Republic moved to New York shortly before the World Series scandal. Representing the Rolando Paulino All-Stars, he was stripped of the first perfect game in the 44-year history of the World Series after it was learned he was 14 not 12, and his team's third-place finish was taken away.
Almonte's father, Felipe de Jesus, was banned for life from Little League activities and was accused of falsifying Danny's birth certificate.
Sort of.
Strawberry had a real bad attitude and was a former gangbanger.
This kid reminds me of Gooden is some ways.
Gooden didn't have a bad attitude, just a stupid problem not realizing who his friends were (hint, they weren't the guys getting him to do coke) and saying no to lowlife scum, hangers on, and people looking to leetch off of him.
Sound farmiliar?
This kid has all the same things going around him........right now, that gooden had in the big leagues.
Its the other stuff that might ruin him, it won't be his talent, thats for sure.
Another Doc Gooden in the making?
