I have a publication that has ONLY the words of Jesus that are in the Bible - try as I might, I cannot find where He says He married the church or that the church is His bride and therefore, He could not marry a flesh and blood woman, as Jewish Law required...particularly for a rabbi. Surely, if the church were to be His bride...he would have told us, unequivocally, in His own words - there would be no room ambiguity about it.

Why does Jesus refer to Himself as the bridegroom in St. Matthew 9:15?

"And Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast.

He doesn't speak of marrying a woman in this statement.

He refers to Himself as the bridgegroom again in St. Matthew 25:10

"Now whilst they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut."

This has to be speaking of a spiritual marriage, not one of an earthly nature as between a man and a woman.
