To: Locomotive Breath
You got more "facts" than I did. In schools, it basically went like this: "All war is bad. People who engage in war are bad. Slavery is bad. Therefore the US Military is bad".

etc. etc.etc. I grew up in libraries all over northern California, therefore and got my history there.

I've wondered how things might have turned out if Lee had been willing to leave a trail of smoldering wreckage in his wake?

Stopped in my tracks. Yes, you are quite right. I'll probably dream about this question tonight.

There is no answer to that question because Lee would not have left a trail of smoldering wreckage.

It was not in his makeup to do so. And if it was, then it would not be Lee.

He had his neurotic side and the family was a bit dysfunctional (his daughters never spoke after his death), but he was a good man.
