If this prosecutor really believes these students are rapists, why is he endangering the public by allowing them to run loose for a year?

Maybe for the same reasons he downgrades felony charges to misdemeanors - for some individuals.

If you or I were to steal a car, drive 70 mph with a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit, try to run over a policeman, and crash into a police car we would be in jail for 30 years. Crstal did ALL of the above and more and was charged with a misdemeanor. Why?

Good question! Yes, why is he letting, according to his statements, let dangerous rapists run loose.

Also, why is no one, not even an independent, opposing him in the election?

I think Mike Nifong would prefer that they rot in jail until trial which is why he asked for and got $400,000. Unfortunately for he he chose to pick on some people with very deep pockets.
