Nifong is far bigger a criminal in this situation in my view. From Mangum's point of view, she claims rape, she avoids the drunk tank and maybe her probation being revoked, and like the last time and the time she said her husband tried to kill her, it goes away the next day with nobody harmed. Prosecutors are suppose to not let people get smeared on flimsy evidence. Nifong is the bad guy in this case.
