Ok -- here was a comment by JoeSixPack1 made to me on this thread:
Riding is an extremely personal affair and each and every one of us that swings a leg over a saddle has one thing in mind while firing up the 2 wheeler... ::: To survive our passion.
But here on FR biker threads, the discussions devolve so quickly into biker bashing, intimidating safety advice, organ donor jokes, life support jokes, and every other aspect of biker lore that it's like being a conservative on a DU thread or a troll posting at FR.
When was the last time we had a thread talking about great places to ride? Or a thread on new safety features? Tire quality? Hand grip style? Comfortable riding clothes?
Answer = never.
We're too busy apologizing for scaring the big trucks or waking the baby sleeping in the back seat or explaining our insurance coverage or wowing at the latest 240mph crotch rocket or chuckling at the new bike prices.
So what say you all? Sound off -- what's your favorite place to ride?
I have 2. The first is (and yes, I know, cliche) the Dragon. We went 4 years ago -- it rained on us the whole time and it was in the middle of Bear Season in North Carolina (whoops!) but it was gorgeous!! I LOVE the Blue Ridge Mountains.
And my other favorite ride we have been on was in the Big Bend National Park area of Texas. We did this ride with a bunch of hubby's friends affectionately known as the "Hoons." It was a blast!! (Yes -- those ARE Draggin' Jeans)
Oh -- and this thread isn't for helmet bashing or mean stuff. Can we just have a nice discussion?? PLEASE??
Calling all bikers!! Can you ping your lists?
OH!! I forgot -- both of the above rides were on our FJR -- we have traded that in and now have a Ducati ST4S for 2 up and hubby just got the new LE R-1 -- which is a story unto itself -- for his alone rides and track days!!
Well, I almost purchased my favorite Harledy model, but almost every other day, some poor soul dies from a bike crush - ususally a baby boomer that does not know how the ride a bike. I'll bet it's safer to ride in groups, slower and safer - even for me.
Hwy 20 across WA state provides gorgeous vistas. Once you reach the coast you may as well take a ferry out to the San Juan Islands...Orcas is among my favorites.

When I turn fifty, I am going to ride a bike through Red Rock country, maybe all over the Southwest even. That's living life to me.
My favorite place to ride is lost on a Southern country road. No idea where I am, or how to get unlost.
The ride from Winthrop over Rainy Pass, past Lake Ross Overlook, and down 20 along the mighty Skagit, is by far the prettiest, most scenic ride there is,, and I've done most of what this Great Nation has to offer...
Turn back turns, big lean glides thru waterfalls mists, with Bald Eagles screaming at you as you ride by... my oh my...
Highway 7 from Harrison to Hot Springs, AK is a nice ride, also recommend the "Land between the lakes" ride in KY.
WOOHOO!! Loved the dragon! What do you ride? Pics??
Lots of people -- hubby included -- would disagree with that. He generally prefers to ride alone with the exception of the "Hoons."
COOL! Never been to the Northwest -- I hope to someday!
Why wait?
He he he!!
Thanks Mr. Fierro. And what's YOUR favorite place?
That sounds good to me too. Most of our rides are the kind that we can take in just an afternoon. Kinda hard to get away with 4 kids!! But anytime hubby complains about that I remind him that I begged him to get a streetbike for FIVE YEARS before we had kids!! LOL
Whoa -- that sounds like heaven!!
...but it's a fantastic area for motorcycle riding, especially if you prefer to ride alone or in small groups like I do.
There's a wide range of topographies within just a few miles of each other. You can go from twisting coastal highway to mountain roads to twisties to flat plain straightaways within a few minutes of each other. And you can easily ride 9-10 months out of the year.
This site lists some of the better Bay Area riding locations. My personal faves are Alice's, Highway 9, Highway 84, Skyline (35), and Mount Hamilton.
Page Mill Road is extremely twisty & not much fun for cruisers. < |:)~
I'm guessing that's probably been ridden by hubby. He and his bunch of Hoons are on a first name basis with an officer of the law down there somewhere. Every April they all meet down there for a ride dubbed "No Mo' Snow." LOL!
On our ride at Big Bend I found out that I actually like "sweepers" more than "twisties." LOL
