A republican senator proposed a bill that will prohibit the granting of legal status, or adjustment of current status, to any individual who enters or entered the United States in violation of Federal law unless the border security measures are put up front. I9n other words: secure the borders first! The bill failed passage in a 55-40 vote. The Republicans that voted against this measure along side 36 Democrats and one Independent are as follows: Bennett (UT) Brownback (R-KS), Chafee (RI), Coleman (MN), Collins (ME), Craig (ID), DeWine (OH), Graham (SC), Hagel (NE), Lugar (IN), Martinez (FL), Murkowski (AK), Shelby (AL), Snow (ME),Specter (PA), Stevens (AK), Voinovich (OH), Warner (VA)
I agree that compromises drive the bills, but to me, granting amnesty to people who broke our laws is giving up too much.
Call me stubborn, but no U.S. citizen gets to pick and choose which laws to obey and which to ignore. Those who aren't even citizens shouldn't get to either.
"You're thinking of Granholm"
You're right, I was thinking of Granholm.
Thank you for the correction.
Sure some are going to be allowed to stay here, I do not like that any more than you do. But to claim there is no punishment. that is requiring something they do not want to do, such as english language and paying back taxes isn't exactly a reward.
Much of your post is preaching to the chior so I guess I am questioning your point.
I agree 100%, I favor enforcing the laws on the books. But I guess I am in a minority.
No, in this "Alice in Wonderland" world we are currently living in, the majority is pushed aside while millions of illegals are welcomed with open arms.
Sad, sad, sad...
"I favor enforcing the laws on the books. But I guess I am in a minority."
You probably are in a minority, but it is a minority substantial enough to decide the winner of the political sweepstakes. There was an interesting line in Dune: "He who can destroy a thing, also controls a thing."
What I am wondering, with 'bated breath, is whether or not folks like you are mad enough at the loss of the Anglo-Saxon future of America to deprive those who had the last clear shot to avert that loss of power.
In other words: will you punish the Republicans in November or not?
