I am always very careful whenever I'm around lakes and canals in Florida. This was a dreadful, horrible attack...that poor woman.

When I was a kid we used to swim in canals, lakes and rock quarries all over Dade, Monroe and Collier Counties in S. Fla. In 8 years there was only one time where a pair of gators acted aggressive towards us and we didn't get in the water.
The past 35 years of protected status on these reptiles has caused them to proliferate to the point of losing fear of man by occupying habitat in urban areas. There needs to be a purging and price drop in alligator skin boots/handbags for a while to get this situation under control.

One of a few 'worst nightmare' scenarios. She could not have imagined going like this. . .
OTOh; wondering what she was thinking.. .that alligators were not in this area (?). . .probably just starting to give it some thought; when it was to late.
Horrible for sure. . .

"I am always very careful whenever I'm around lakes and canals in Florida."I saw a small dog (a guest's pet) taken at a well known Florida resort once. It was over within a couple seconds. Pretty impressive. I don't know whether the owner ever discovered what happened, or not.
