I wish Cheshire had been clearer at the presser on how the nails came to police. Did the guys pluck them from the trash and hand them over, which sounds strange? Or did the guys see "fake fingernails" on the search warrant and tell police they had put them in the trash can, which sounds reasonable and exeulpatory?
Taken from the last two paragraphs of the posted thread:
"The fake fingernail was found inside a garbage can in the bathroom of the off campus home where the party was thrown. The garbage can also contained tissues, Q-Tips, and other materials, defense lawyers said. They said that players removed the plastic nail from the garbage and gave it to police."
"Is that consistent with someone that knowledgeably and knowingly committed a rape?" Cheshire said. "That they would leave fingernails that were ripped off a person in a violent struggle in their trash can after they're told there's an investigation and that police were going to come to their house and when the police do, they give them the fingernails?"
That's exactly what the players did. Took them out of the garbage and gave them to the police.
Re-reading you question....so sorry. You knew that already! (Red-face!)
He said that they put them in the trash can and then took them out and carried them to the police.
They weren't at the house when they served the search warrant; I got the impression it was during the part where they were cooperating; you know, the part where they must have been thinking, "If I show them this, they'll know nothing happened."
This post was meant for you. I mistakenly sent it to myself.....
Again, sorry.
I've been reading some of these posters' comments on the Duke threads and apparently some of them just now tuned into a two month old case, evident by their comments and questions.
I should have known....you have kept up with the story.
