The father is the "boyfriend" in quotes? or maybe he is just trying to position himself after the fact for a share of the loot that is supposed to come cascading down on the woman.
I think the "boyfriend" is someone known to the Durham Police, and also known to the defense, at least one defense lawyer, who is most-likely a client, and that is why they are protecting his name.
