The "single male source" who matched the genetic material found on the vaginal swab taken from the victim ... "is known to the Durham police department," Cheshire said. He declined to give the man's name or comment on his relationship with the accuser.

"There is no indication that this man should have his name dragged through the mud," he said.

Someone prominent, perhaps?

If the DNA of this "man" is in the Durham Police database, I dare say that he doesn't have a name that a little mud could damage.

Since it was male DNA, it IS possible for them to determine the race of the "donor." Wouldn't that set the fur flying!

I saw the presser. Nifong's "Case" got blown clean out of the water IMO. He wanted this to be the case that made his career. Nifong is toast.

For the past couple of weeks, the rumor here in Chapel Hill has been that her boyfriend (pimp) roughed her up after she failed to bring the $400 back. The story varied from he had sex with her to he used an object or both. She may have cooked up the rape story when she found herself at the PD since she was already in trouble with the courts regarding alcohol and substance abuse re: her kids.

FWIW

Wouldn't it be a hoot if the accuser was raped, but by the one who was specifically excluded from the DNA testing? I know, rape itself isn't a "hoot", but this is the best I can phrase the notion.
