I don't know, Peach. It doesn't sound like it from this excerpt from the article in post #25 ...

Elmostafa said he later received a call asking him to speak with Hecht's security. The security officer at Hecht's said Hawkins had stolen some purses before getting into the taxi, Elmostafa said.

Elmostafa said he gave the woman's address and a copy of his driver's license to the security guard, who thanked him for his help.

"I am not responsible for what she did inside the store," Elmostafa said. "I am just a taxi driver."

Hawkins pleaded guilty to the larceny three months later.

I'm sure that dragging up old offenses of rich white boys is just fine with a certain segment of the Durham community. I wonder if this will be their wake-up call as to the kind of man they have just elected? The taxi driver is from the Sudan and may be Muslim. I wonder if the New Black Panthers will have a march in his support and offer to pay for his defense? I wonder if Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are going to show up and decry this out of control persecution of this black Muslim immigrant? I also am wondering if the next shoe to drop is that he is illegal and Nifong will arrange for him to be deported before trial?

That he was arrested for this is really a new low, even for this DA.

And since they asked him if he had anything else to add to the Duke player's alibi, the DA is clearly doing this for revenge.
