Lubbock and the West Texas area are rich in heritage and contributions from many gifted people in the field of music and entertainment. To preserve and share this rich heritage the Lubbock "Walk of Fame" was dedicated September 6, 1980. Buddy Holly contributed to the music heritage of not only West Texas, but the entire world as a musician and composer. It is significant that the first plaque on The "Walk of Fame" bear his name. The citizens of Lubbock pay tribute to and honor their native son. "1979"
