Red Sox v Yankees--The Holy War Continues
05/09/06 | misterrob

Posted on 05/09/2006 4:03:54 PM PDT by misterrob

The saga continues in the Bronx this week. The Sox send out Beckett, Wakefield and Schilling. The Yankees counter with Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina and Shawn Chacon.

The New York Post ran a back cover story questioning why anyone has not dared to throw at David Ortiz.. (maybe because he is 6' 4" and weighs 250 lbs) Sox offseason pickup Josh Beckett returns to Yankee Stadium for the first time since Game 6 of the 2003 World Series.

Series returns to NY after an abbreviated series last week in Boston where Boston fans expressed their true feelings about Johnny Damon.

ouch....

3 run bomb by Giambi.

They might want to think about putting in a batboy or someone to pitch at this point.....

Maybe Loretta or someone :)

Maybe this will help...

May the Hillary CURSE be with you, Yankees!

This is starting to remind me of game three of the 2004 ALCS...

And he's throwing 97/98 mph tonight!! They are seeing the ball far too well or they simply know what's coming.

If he is going to break out as a #1 starter, he needs 3 pitches that he can throw for strikes with some consistancy.

I honestly think he was tipping his pitches somehow.

Even he he wasn't throwing smoke, the Yankees had their hands back and were able to make good contact (Damon especially).

His location sucked, but given the element of surprise that shouldn't have mattered if he wasn't walking too many batters.

My guess is that the Yankees have picked up something on him and they jumped all over it.

He needs a sit down with Schilling, Mike Timlin and Al Nipper to help him get his head right.

He walked Damon, went deep in the count on a few guys then they just started hitting everything.

All he threw was fastballs tonight. A few curves and everything over the plate.

the 1st inning didn't hurt him too much though.

Being over or around the plate isn't the problem.

Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine have made a career out of it.

It's about location and being able to change your speed. Beckett was having issues with that, but I think the Yankees picked something up on him.

He doesn't vary his speed enough and he doesn't get much movement when he does throw. 97 is a good speed to maintain but if that's all you throw then you have a problem. Plus, if you stay up high then that's an invitation to a disaster.

NESN just replayed Manny's reaction to Damon's catch... apparently Manny thought he had hit a homer...

yeah but you remember how nasty Brad Lidge was?

They have been able to determine which pitch is coming when from him.

I guarantee they can do it to Beckett too.

wow....

I'd be pissed if I were you, the Red Sox just got screwed I think.

The initial call on Cairo was correct, he was out.

The 2nd part is nothing beyond an umpire error that cost the Red Sox.
