Red Sox v Yankees--The Holy War Continues
05/09/06 | misterrob

Posted on 05/09/2006 4:03:54 PM PDT by misterrob

The saga continues in the Bronx this week. The Sox send out Beckett, Wakefield and Schilling. The Yankees counter with Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina and Shawn Chacon.

The New York Post ran a back cover story questioning why anyone has not dared to throw at David Ortiz.. (maybe because he is 6' 4" and weighs 250 lbs) Sox offseason pickup Josh Beckett returns to Yankee Stadium for the first time since Game 6 of the 2003 World Series.

Series returns to NY after an abbreviated series last week in Boston where Boston fans expressed their true feelings about Johnny Damon.

I thought the pitcher was supposed to cover home.

Look at the ESPN Gamecast and they have an electronic strike zone. Mussina got the corner and low pitches. Beckett got far fewer calls.

No..the pitcher should be backing up, but the first baseman rotates to home.

I;m not saying it would.

In fact I said he wouldn't. But I am sure there are others players that the Marlins would be interested in.

Did you see Nixon look to center and see Damon picking up the ball and he then turns on the burners realizing that Damon can barely even get the ball back into the shortstop?

Between Damon and Bernie you have the makings of high school outfield in terms of arm strength.

yeah....he was the one I was thinking about actually :)

although the Marlins are playing a couple guys who should probably be in AA or maybe AAA at best in the MLB.

Mr. Flaming Liberal Gammons did a column on the Marlins a few weeks back. In his estimation and from comments around the league this is a team with a lot of talent that will be VERY good in 2-3 years. They keep trading big players for prospects and they get great returns. If they had been able to trade Pavano and Burnett they would likely have even more young talent.

yep....

which makes me think that maybe Willis won't stick around.

At least, unless someone offers them peanuts for him, I don't see him ending this season in a Marlins uni....

Gammons sucks.

Yes, he is. He needs to learn how to throw his curve for strikes. The Yankees guys on YES have analyzed him pretty well tonight. They pointed to the fact that the Yanks are sitting on his fastball and that his position on the mound makes it hard for him to come inside on right handers. Jerry Remy said that his change is too hard to be effective.

Hey, the kid has great stuff but he does not know how to pitch. I don't care how hard you throw it if you cannot show them something besides a fastball then you are screwed.

Nah...they have 8 games in the next 7 days. Regardless of score the bullpen will not be overworked....if possible.
