That doesn't surprise me. Everything about Nifong says "loser." He's been at his job 27 years, I believe. He was handling traffic tickets a few months ago, and I'm sure he was best suited for that role.
This case is a dream come true for him. He'll be riding this case to "media contributor" on the news channels within a year or two. Look at Darden and Clark from OJ. Two sorrier lawyers you'll never find - maybe the only two who could have lost the OJ case - but they're still on TV as consultants.
I suspected there was something like that was in the mix.
The election notwithstanding, Nifong is way too aggressive in this matter.
My own take was closer to Swamp Fox's.
You said, in part: He had to settle for UNC-Chapel Hill.

It is not "settling" to go to UNC vs. Duke. Sadly, both have a terrible liberal atmosphere, but those who look for it can find a very substantial conservative core-- just look for the ones who are actually working. I am a double Carolina grad, and my wife has a Pharmacy degree from Carolina also. We didn't "settle." (And we don't have student loans outstanding, either.)
BOTH his parents went there and he couldn't even get in as a legacy? He must have had some dreadful grades.
