I don't know whether we have reached the rioting point if the case does not turn out the way some of hte radicals want it to. I do know Duke has allowed it to reach the point that the school and the community are best served by keeping the heck away from each other.
Sad, but some graduates may choose this year to take their diplomas by mail instead of attending the ceremony. Not that they are missing much. Fr. Hesburgh gave our commencement address and it was nothing more than dusted off civil rights speech from 1968.
It's one thing for graduates to get their diploma by mail, it is another for accepted students to choose another school. If this fiasco is allowed to continue the 'summer melt' (accepted students who have returned their deposit but then change their minds and go elsewhere) will continue to hurt the school.
As a parent of 3 sons.....if one of them were a student at Duke right now....it would be his last semester there. As bad as NiFong has been in this non-case, the administration at Duke has been just as bad.
