This is so typical of sleazy MSM journalism. Instead of quoting a knowledgeable expert who would say how hard it is to manipulate in a non-traceable way the underlying metadata where the time data is embedded, the reporter instead takes the idea she wants to get across (the time stamps are phony) from the mouth of some random interviewee who, strictly speaking, need not as a journalistic matter have a reasonable basis for her statements.
