Well, here's another reason for sodomites to demand equal opportunity.

It used to be that a woman with an illegitimate child could often find no support for raising it and would consequently have to give it up for adoption. I would suggest that in most cases where a an unmarried mother would be unable to raise a child without a government safety net or government-ordered child support, giving the child up for adoption would be better for all concerned than having the mother try to slog it out on her own, even with such supports.

Of course, for that to really work, it has to be possible for people to adopt domestic babies with no strings attached. Unfortunately, some horrible judges and bureaucrats have made this just about impossible.
