In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
adduce \uh-DOOSS\ verb
: to offer as example, reason, or proof in discussion or analysis
Example sentence:
"Leon has made some pretty strong accusations here tonight," said Tim, "but he has adduced no convincing evidence in support of them."
Etymology:
We won't lead you astray over the history of "adduce"; it is one of a plethora of familiar words that trace to the Latin root "ducere," which means "to lead." Perhaps we can induce you to deduce a few other "ducere" offspring if we offer a few hints about them. One is another term for kidnapping, one's a title for a British royal, and one's a process of abridging or consolidating something. Give up? They are "abduct," "duke," and "reduce," respectively. There are also many others, including "induce," which means "to persuade" or "to bring about."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Good Morning!
I don't know how to use this word. I don't play tennis.
I was inducted once. I could have been abducted, but I deduced that it was deucedly better to go quietly.
There! Is that adduquate?
Morning.
hiya to you : )
Peggy is so right. i am not afraid to say they should have killed him. i saw some of the relatives on Oreilly last night, they were disappointed. some people say we should be proud that we are better than those that committed the atrocity of 9/11, that we show MERCY to our enemies. HOW does that make us better? this guy deserved no mercy. and the naive jackasses who think we are a shining beacon of compassion and highmindededness to the Arab world are on DRUGS! those people are laughing at our weakness. they don't see us as NOBLE, they see us as LILYLIVERED and WEAK! unable to even pull the trigger on an unabashed, unrepentant murderous thug who is LAUGHING IN OUR FACES and CLAIMING TRIUMPH.
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like aaduce,
runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like adduce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like aaduce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like aaduce,
another runner in the night
that is fantastic!!!! i never knew the actual words to that song.... ; )
It's thursday, my poker night. I just know when I really need that ace, I'll get adduce.
LOL, That ain't how I sing it!
I adduce that I may have struck a tender subject in my yesterday's homework post that was never graded....;)

Lawmakers pass key lime pie bill after fierce debate(Florida)
Good morning, Secret Garden, everyone.
More likely, our collective "compassion" in not executing that piece of excrement will be rewarded in the form of more beheadings.
Rudy said something similar to that last night on Hannity and Colmes and I adduced that's he's a dim liberal.
The chef is here. Good eats for everyone.
