Nifong prevails in DA race
The Durham district attorney bests Freda Black and Keith Bishop in a primary that rocketed to national prominence
EXCERPT
Nifong will move to the November ballot. No Republicans filed for the office, so unless someone petitions to run as an unaffiliated candidate or launches a successful write-in campaign, Nifong will be the district attorney for a four-year term.

Nifong edges Black for DA

EXCERPT
Because Tuesday's election was only a partisan primary, it's not yet 100 percent certain that Nifong will win in November, even though there are no Republicans running. There are two possible -- but highly improbable -- ways someone could challenge him.
One would be to file as an unaffiliated candidate, which would require getting the signatures of about 6,400 registered voters by June 30. The other would be to register as a write-in candidate, in which case the person's name would not appear on the ballot. But that would require only 100 signatures.
But under a "sore loser" clause in the law, neither Black nor Bishop could file as an unaffiliated or write-in candidate.

And this guy's an English Professor???
This guy was all over television right after the allegations surfaced declaring the entire team guilty.
"It says they are model academic citizens -- they've been on the honor roll," Baker said. "But there as been underage drinking. There has been bad behavior."
Underage drinking? Is this professor thinking we're all too dumb to recognize that underage drinking is prevalent on every campus...even by non athletes? I think he doesn't realize how much this situation is hurting his University. He's now discrediting his fellow professors' investigation.
