I didn't have the courage to read further and determine the outcome.

The outcome is that the Humane Society, ASPCA and other such organizations are trying to get legislation passed in Congress to ban important of puppies under one year.

The tragic and ironic thing is, such legislation probably won't have any effect given that we aren't controlling our borders.

I hate that this will become another illegal immigration thread, because, dog lover that I am, I do want to focus attention on this particular issue of puppy smuggling. But in this instance, the two issues are intertwined.

Is that a Leonard Cohen tagline?

If they ban the import of puppies under one year, then I cannot buy a purebred dog to improve my breeding program, from say Italy, right? (one of my breeds has a small American genepool and many people import puppies to add into their bloodlines).

As crazy as this country is anymore, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see enforcement of the borders finally come at the behest of the animal rights groups whining to have their law enforced.
