VANCOUVER, Wash. - A Washington community is shaken after a 17-year-old employee at a McDonalds restaurant is stabbed to death in front of the girl's shocked co-workers.
We've learned the suspect spent time at Western State Hospital. Police say the victim didn't know her attacker. She is the second young woman killed in Vancouver in the last six months.
David Barton Sullivan entered a Clark County courtroom Friday where he was charged with first-degree murder.
The victim, Anna Svidersky, a senior at Fort Vancouver High School, was stabbed in the chest. She died at the hospital.
"This is the second time we've had the death of a teenage girl in our community in the last six months and it's tearing us apart, to be quite frank," Vancouver Police Chief Brian Martinek said, referring to the November 2005 murder of 14-year-old Chelsea Harrison. It turns out Sullivan is a registered sex offender with a history of mental illness.
In December 1999, he was charged with sexual assault and in April 2003, he pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment with sexual motivation involving a 14-year-old girl. He was sent to Western State Hospital, treated for paranoid schizophrenia and found competent to stand trial. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
He lives with his parents about a mile and a half from the restaurant.
"She always spoke her mind, she was kind and she was sweet, she was the kind of person you wanted to be around all the time," friend Amika Grice said.
"She was like, 'Anna Svidersky' and I was like 'oh my God,' I like really could not believe it. I was like 'oh my God' you know," shocked friend Jackie Bahena said.
Nancy Faaren, principal at Fort Vancouver High School said Svidersky's death "is a very sad day for Fort Vancouver High School. Svidersky was "well-liked by students and staff alike. She will be greatly missed by students and staff."
Shortly after the first 9-1-1 call about the stabbing at McDonald's, at 2814 N.E. Andresen St., emergency dispatchers received a report that a man was being pursued on foot and police dogs were quickly sent to the scene. Martinek said several witnesses from McDonald's had followed Sullivan from the restaurant.
Officers said he was soon captured and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was found nearby as well.
The girl's mother found out about the attack when she showed up Thursday night to drive her daughter home from work. A Russian-speaking Vancouver Police officer accompanied Svidersky's family to the hospital Thursday night.
Police are promising a full effort. "Our task as the Vancouver police department is to work with the prosecutor's office on compiling a case to make sure this person doesn't hurt anybody ever again," Chief Martinek said.
The 28-year-old defendant told investigators "I should have stayed home with my stuffed animals instead of doing what I did. This is all evil stuff that I've done."
Court records indicate he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
The judge ordered Sullivan to be held without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for next Friday.
He's paranoid schiz and pleaded guilty and he got 90 days. That is the problem.
Of course, now I'll be awaiting Michael Moore's expose of Canada's knife culture.

As well as this scum being a registered sex offender, the following is a snip from an article in The Columbian, a Vancouver newspaper.
Sullivan's criminal record in Clark County includes a 1999 conviction for fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.
In 2001, he attempted to kidnap a 14-year-old girl from Naydenov Gymnastics Center. After a mental health evaluation, he pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment with sexual motivation.
While on community supervision for that offense, he was watching a 15-year-old girl run around the track at Mountain View High School on June 14, 2003. The girl became frightened and ran across the football field toward her home, according to court documents. Sullivan chased her but didn't catch her. The girl later identified Sullivan when a Vancouver police officer showed her photographs of registered sex offenders.
His corrections officer wrote on July 1, 2003, that Sullivan "has had difficulty adjusting to supervision, in part, because of his mental health disabilities." The officer said that the Mountain View incident "encompasses the same behavior which led to his previous convictions."

Poor man. How unfortunate. Furthermore, the MSM has NO RIGHT to disclose his private medical condition. But now that they have...if he had only taken his medication properly, he wouldn't be in such a bad situation now.

Here is a true innocent killed by a victim of paranoid schizophrenia which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. In the 'old' days these were the people sent for life confinement in 'those institutions' of the kind featured in "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest". Now, following the revealed horrors of many of those places, these people have been 'de-institutionalized'.
For some of them this has been a very good thing, for most it has meant at best group homes or skid row, and for the worst - these nightmare incidents. In hindsight these are the ones who need to be closely confined for the sake of society as well as their own safety. But this is hindsight and there are some/many[?] who do not do these horrible things yet suffer the same sickness.
Drugs that reduce their problems also make them self-aware zombies, another horror but when they go 'off their meds', the sickness frequently worsens as the mind/body adapts.
Pray for the day when medicine finds cures for this monster. Meantime, in futility and compassion I pray for all involved in this nightmare, and ask God for speedy deliverance.
My above post was to flesh out the fact that this paranoid schizophrenia is an area where there are no good things and these persons too are sufferers. So I will pray for them as well, hoping that someday this condition will be defeated, PLEASE GOD!
