Great Danes do make the list of top ten most dangerous breeds but I think it has more to do with their size and less to do with their disposition.
I have encoutered very few Great Danes in my life, but the ones I have encountered seemed friendly enough.

Well, I read through the posts and came back to yours. Nobody commented on the "chained" bit.
"Chained" dogs are more aggressive/territorial than other dogs. Why was it chained? How old was it and how much of it's life had been spent chained? How often did it socialize/play with the family vs stay on the chain? Just some of the questions I would have asked before writing the story.
