Probably the Best Part of My Day. *Pure Puppy Vanity*
Posted on 04/25/2006 9:25:31 PM PDT by speed_addiction
I have started walking for exercise again since crashing my motorcycle several weeks ago. Been throwing in a little running, but not too much until my knee heals all the way.
TOPICS: Pets/Animals
KEYWORDS: dog; dogs
I walk down this little country road that is fenced in on both sides. There is no traffic at all out there so I take my dog, Kato. It is the best thing I could have ever done. He loves it out there! Since there is no traffic I let him run loose. He enjoys it so much, that I feel guilty when I do not feel like going and intend to skip a day. I don't have the heart to not take him out there.
There are a couple of horses that graze out there along the fence and he loves to look at them. Usually runs up ahead of me to see if they are there or not. One of the greatest gifts God ever gave us was dogs.

We do the same when I visit my sister in Northern Idaho. We take her Newfie for walks to visit the neighborhood ponies off lead. It's great exercise, and the critters love it.
Keep up the good work on your knee rehab!

I haven't ridden a motorcycle in over 30 years, never busted up a knee or a bone and never had an urge to jump out of a plane , walked a few country roads tho.
Stay, or should I say , get healthy, good luck to you and Kato, and your gal.

They pretty well match also. A buckskin horse to go with my buckskin dog.

I wonder if they would get along if the fence wasn't there... :\

Have to ask, what breed is you Kato? He looks a lot like my brother's, late Sheba, Pit Bull. Same color and strong body.

I have been going out there about 2 weeks now. The horse got skittish the first couple of times then got to where he didn't pay much attention to Kato. The last couple of times, though the horse has trotted and galloped along the fence with Kato running alongside. I think they would get along great.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope that you continue to get better. I'm getting ready to get my motorcycle ready for the summer. Actually going to get my full license for it finally.
Just got a dog recently, too. She's a cutie.

Kato is a Catahoula Leopard Dog. A breed of dog bred to hunt boar. They are fearless and protective but not agressive like Pitt Bulls. They are very even tempered, I guess they have to be since hunting boar does not allow for emotional mistakes.
They are very agile, on a par with Border Collies. Again, the less nimble Boar Hunters did not get to pass their genes on if the boar had anything to say about it. Around in my neck of Texas, the ranchers like to use them to herd sheep and cattle. They communicate very well with other dogs and learn how to work stock easily. Catahoulas are also very strong and they play rough. Kato crashes into me at full speed when playing fetch and will bump me alot during play. Also they eat a lot. I had a St. Benard/German Shepherd Mix that did not eat as much as Kato does.

Thanks, I know a lot of Clymers just breed Pit Bulls to be too agressive. Guess my brother got a good one. Sorry to say, kinda dumb. Took her eight years to understand she could jump a 4' fence, without trying!!
However Sheba's Grandmother saved a family from a house fire. Got the family up in time.
