God knows that our country can produce more than enough corn for to make a significant dent in the amopunt of oil we import from the Middle East.

Really? Do you know how much corn it would take and how much land that corn needs to grow? What do you consider a "significant dent"?

A 10% reduction in the use of oil from the Middle East would be a significant dent.

The US imports about 1,396,000 barrels of oil a day from the Mideast. A barrel of oil yields about 19.5 gallons of gasoline. An acre of farmground will average 160 bushels of corn each of which, in turn, will yield about 2.7 gallons of ethanol.

Maybe the kids from Mater Dei can do the math.
