DURHAM - District Attorney Mike Nifong plans to reinstate misdemeanor charges against a half-dozen Duke lacrosse players, saying a March 13 party where a woman reported a rape broke the deals that the players made with prosecutors.
Nifong's decision could affect players who, before the party, had entered agreements in which prosecutors would dismiss the cases if the players performed community service and stayed out of trouble for six months or a year. Among the first to have his charges reinstated was David Evans, one of the team captains who lived at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd., the site of the party in which lacrosse players hired two women from escort services to dance. One of the women told police that she was raped by three men in a bathroom.
Two players, Collin Finnerty, 19, and Reade William Seligmann, 20, were charged last week with first-degree rape, first-degree sex offense and first-degree kidnapping. Their attorneys say the men are innocent.
On Monday, an attorney for Seligmann filed a motion seeking information that would help attack the credibility of the woman, the only person, according to the defense filing, who says a rape occurred. The motion seeks information about the woman, including criminal charges, mental and emotional problems the woman has suffered as well as social services, probation, child protective services and victim's advocacy records.
Today, Finnerty is due in a Washington court where prosecutors in an assault charge are considering whether to revoke a deferred prosecution agreement similar to those affecting other players in Durham.
According to court records, 16 players were charged in the past three years with misdemeanor charges in Durham including noise violations, public urination and alcohol violations. The deals placed the men on probation for either six months or a year.

HA! You're right. She's seriously talking about it! But I'm trying to talk her out of going to Thailand for it. The last thing I would do is go to a foreign country for surgery. Scary!! Naturally, she's thinking of the money. But it's not like she's poor.

Well, schools and perents both have let the wild things be too wild too long.
Enough excuses already. The DA is a harsh man, that's well enough displayed, but Duke and the team set the table that this bitter meal is being served up on.

Sure.....After all AV's case is so strong, of course she will be paid off not to talk.
Only..NOT!

All right I'll bite, how do rape charges naturally flow form the actions of the team, the parents or Duke itself?
To: snarkytart
Looks like that's it for NG. I'm gone to bed. See y'all tomorrow...

That probably is him.
From
http://johnsville.blogspot.com/ She is 27-years-old, her birthday is July 16, 1978.
She is the youngest of three children raised in a working-class Durham neighborhood.
Ms. Mangum graduated from Hillside High School, Durham, N.C. in 1996.
She joined the Navy in the fall of 1996 - signing up for an eight-year enlistment -- two years of active duty followed by six years in the reserves.
Ms. Mangum began active duty in the summer of 1997 and was sent to school in Dam Neck, Va., near Virginia Beach. She trained for a job operating radios and navigation equipment.
She married a man 14 years her senior in the fall of 1997. His first name is "Kenneth." She taught him how to read and write.
She and her husband moved to Concord, Calif., where Mangum was assigned to the USS Mount Hood, an ammunition ship. Reportedly:
She was often away at sea for days or weeks, and tensions flared in the marriage, her former husband said.
"She was young," he said.
Along the way, the woman became interested in another sailor, a man who would later father her children, the former husband said. The two separated as the new relationship began, he said. Six months later, she was discharged from the service.
Ms. Mangum is divorced with two children, ages 5 and 7.
She was a full-time student at North Carolina Central University this semester. Ms. Mangum is a police psychology student with a 3.0 grade average.
Ms. Mangum was working for the Allure Escort Service when she went to the Duke Lacrosse party. Ms. Mangum had worked for an escort company for two months, doing one-on-one dates about three times a week.
"It wasn't the greatest job," she said, her voice trailing off. But with two children, and a full class load at N.C. Central University, it paid well and fit her schedule.
Consider this. What if all of that is true? What if she is all of those things? And add manic to it--what do you have?
I have a friend who is manic and when she has an episode, the personality change is amazing. She is sweet, would do anything for anyone, somewhat shy, a good Mom who loves her kids.
She has had several episodes since I have known her, but this last one was a doozy. It took me a while to get it. One day I asked her husband. Yes, she was in the middle of an acute, full blown manic episode. But to everyone else, she was just "crazy." She believed every lie she told and those lies usually involved someone hurting her physically or emotionally. IOW, MAJOR paranoia.
Now I feel bad for my friend because I know her..but I am not feeling sorry for Crystal. No way, no how.
But that might explain why the attorney wants those records going back to her school days.
Just something to chew on for a while.
