Hello, I Must Be Going
As the wind brushes past
On its way undeterred
As the spring leaves wave
Giving cover to song birds
As the sun sparkles brightly
On the surface of the pond
I sit alone with thoughts
Too personal to call profound
In the distance cars are driving
down a country highway lane
In the distance rain is falling
In time, to stop and start again
As the sun sparkles brightly
On the surface of the pond
I sit alone with thoughts
Too gracious to call profound
At an even greater distance
Up to the sky so clear
Pure white cloudy giants
Greet one another without fear
As the sun sparkles brightly
On the surface of the pond
I sit alone with thoughts
Too dear to call profound
As I return to the city
Please don't feel disquiet if you pass
I'm just to grab a few things
Of use, a coat and a hat
As the sun shone brightly
on the surface of the pond
I said "hello, I must be going"
To my reflection, already gone
