The sanctuary was set up a decade ago to give shelter to orphaned and abandoned chimpanzees.

No good deed goes unpunished...

"We are combing the area and beyond to bring the chimpanzees back but would not harm them."

This seems to happen to homeless advocates all the time. ;)

The leader of the apes, a chimp named Caeser, was quoted by the local press as saying
"Where there is fire, there is smoke. And in that smoke, from this day forward, my people will crouch and conspire and plot and plan for the inevitable day of Man's downfall - the day when he finally and self-destructively turns his weapons against his own kind. The day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble! When the sea is a dead sea, and the land is a wasteland out of which I will lead my people from their captivity! And we will build our own cities in which there will be no place for humans except to serve our ends! And we shall found our own armies, our own religion, our own dynasty! And that day is upon you NOW"

The article neglects to mention if they're Maoists, but it's highly likely they are; the photograph of Bruno testifies to the chimp's striking resemblance to the late Chinese leader, and the personal hygiene and patterns of grooming are identical. Well... almost identical; Bruno clearly takes greater pains to cultivate a civilized appearance than did Mao, and perhaps this is the reason the chimp is somewhat more handsome.

Somehow the old movie RIOT from 1969 comes to mind.
