So sorry for your loss, RIP indeed, Chase.

MISSING OUR DOGS

Old Men miss many dogs.
They only live a dozen years,if that,
And by the time you are sixty, there are several
The names of which evoke remembering smiles.
You see them in your mind, heads cocked and seated.
You see them by your bed, or in the rain,
Or sleeping by the fire by nights
And always dying.

They are remembered like departed children
Though they gave vastly more than ever they took,
And finally you're seeing dogs that look like them.
They pass you in the street but never turn
Although it seems they should, their faces so familiar.
Old men miss many dogs.

Ping!

ChocChipCookie...I am so sorry for your loss....God Bless Chase, and all those that mourn for him...whether its your human family that mourns, or the dog members of that pack that mourn, its a grief, that wrenches at the heart...cry all you want, mourn all you want, for you have lost a value member of your family...I have lost many of my dogs, I know the grief, that will seem so very overwhelming, as do others here on this thread today...dogs are those special beings, that are blessed by God...they make our lives better and more complete....

Hair...thanks for that wonderful poem in your post #35...I am 60yrs old, an older woman, and all my life, I have had dogs...all wonderful, loving, sweet babes, and I miss every single one of them....they were all my babies....my last three that passed on to that great Rainbow Bridge, are buried out in the back yard, each one in a specially built resting box, that my husband hand built for each of them...each dog is wrapped in his/her especially loved blanket, and their favorite toy is lovingly placed in between their front paws...

I mourn them all, I often cry for them all, but most of all, I remember the way they were in life, the great gift of love they gave me, and my whole family...there is no such thing as being 'just a dog'....our beloved dogs are our family, our loved ones, our children..my life is most blessed, as I have been able to have a life, which included a whole wonderful number of dogs...I hope to reach the Rainbow Bridge, and immediately be knocked down and licked for hours, by the pack of dogs, who added so very much to my life...
