All little dogs are easily hurt, and that makes them not good around kids. Especially doxies, who are vulnerable by design.
I almost without exception wouldn't recommend small dogs for kids. A kid's not going to hurt a lab.
I wish I had pictures of how Luke used to "play" with Sam. I've seen him (at no more than two) with Sam's face in his hands moving his mouth up and down. Sam just sat there.
