I must confess admiration of those guys who work with the enemy's high explosives. I'm no big fan of HE myself, unless it's rounds leaving our own artillery.
We got to throw two live grenades in Basic. I really didn't think much about it, until it was my turn in the grenade pit, and the sergeant said to pull the pin. Then this hugh sensation of "what am I doing with this thing?" hit me. As the saying goes, once you pull the pin, Mr. Grenade is no longer your friend.
The Tavor looks interesting, but certainly not as elegant as the FN and Steyr bullpups. It looks like they're placing all their bets on that electronic sight.
I'd love to give one a thorough workout, to see where the superiority comes in. Maybe they've done it. On the other hand, they're still using the same less-than-optimal 30-round GI magazine that was rushed into production during Vietnam.
