The ones we had were WW2 vintage, and were collector's items, even then.

I gotta get in a picture of my M19s, which I've never seen anyplace else, except for Mel Gibson using them in "We Were Soldiers".

Here's the M19s, next to the Steiner. The M19 is not tiny, it just looks like it compared to the German ones.

The M19 was the last gasp at producing "American" binoculars. It was intended to be modular and easily repairable without special equipment, but not enough spare parts were ever built. The glass itself is Japanese, while everything else, including the design, is American.

Good classes, but the optical quality of the Steiners is considerably better.
