The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmm... agreed, from what I've seen anyway. Pretty much a regular kid.

Let me get this straight...they think a kid *under the age of four* should be willing to sit still through a whole movie, for example?

She ain't the abnormal one. That's just ludicrous.

I agree with you and the learning department...Matthew started reading when he was almost three, I have recordings of him sounding out words! Joshua didn't have a clue until he was SIX and then BAM! He figured it out and now reads at the same level Matthew did at age 7! So he basically caught up to where Matthew was at the same age in one year.

Kids learn on different time tables and it would have been very frustrating if I'd thought that Matthew was the norm and that Joshua should be the same. It worried me, I admit...but I just had patience and kept gently trying until he finally was old enough to get it.

Now they both sit on the couch reading "Calvin and Hobbs" books, just howling at them.

:-)

Ya know...Hair and I have a rabbit that wanders around - *in* my yard. I have a fence around the garden, but it's only enough to keep the dog out, and the bunny comes right through my outer fence.

He's left my lettuce and cukes and all alone so far. I guess I should be counting my blessings. All he mostly does is take dirt baths in my driveway.

Vent away, Ruthie!! I think your assessment is spot on. Teachers wanted to put my nephew on meds 'cause he wouldn't sit still, didn't pay attention, etc., etc. My sister flatly refused and put him in gymnastics to burn off his excess energy. He was good enough that he continued through high school and got a college gymnastic scholarship.

So she doesn't want to say the letter, but can say a word that begins with that letter--it means she can already spell!! She'll probably catch onto reading very fast.

I think your children are lovely little girls, and as you said, you can watch her and catch any problems that tend to arise.

Just my two cents, and, as a disclaimer, I have absolutely no first-hand experience with children :-)

They've been eating my "mixed greens" and they've nipped my flat Italian "Roma" beans, my peppers, my okra, and sometimes the marigolds. Last year they got the eggplant as soon as I put them out. This year the eggplant is planted safely within a 3 foot chicken wire fence. They might take a nibble of tomato leaves, but not enough to hurt the plants much so I don't worry about them. I figure the squirrels will be raiding the 'maters when they're ripe enough. :)

Ya...coming from a big family, we had all extremes. Margaret read at three or four...Jim (who's probably the smartest in the family, seriesly) didn't really pick it up until he was close to seven. And some were much better about concentrating for long periods than others...but deciding a kid that little needs to be medicated just because they aren't ready to act like a mini adult? Huh-uh.

I saw our little rabbit "Blaze" and I'm kind of worried about her, she doesn't seem to be growing. Don't know if we have a pygmy rabbit, or I need to take down the fence around the eggplant and give her something more nutritious that just cornflowers, basil and grass.

Thanks.

Becky was a very fast learner and was talking in complete sentences by two years old. And I could take her practically anywhere and count on her to behave really well.

I can't say for sure whether my staying home with Becky for the first year made that difference or not. No two kids are alike and I really believe that Aly is just being Aly.

And she'd prolly be just the same if I had been able to stay home with her.

In any case, only one more week of this nonsense and we'll all be happier. :-)

Ramius - duct tape won't hold her. Unless it's the whole roll. ;-)

Yup. My nephew didn't talk at all until he almost four and then it was only one word here and there.

He is just starting sixth grade and had one of the highest test scores in the whole school (K-8th).

I think some folks just feel the need to diagnose every kid with ~something~. As if it were a crime to be different.

Heh heh...I know you wouldn't say it, but did you ever think about saying "Blow it out your shorts" to the lady? If so, then my work is done here. LOL!!!!

I think it all the time when dealing with the general public. LOL!

Do daycares get guvmint money for every kid diagnosed with a disability?

Good question, chica.

It would be interesting to find out how many kids enrolled there are on some type of medication.

Hey... I just found out that President Bush is about to land at Boeing Field. Apparently he's coming over to Medina today for some fundraiser, over here on my side of the lake. Medina's only a couple of miles from here. That's where Bill Gates' house is... though I doubt that's the venue. That's the 'old money' part of town, so there's plenty of possibilities.

...outside looking for AF one... :-)
