The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Happy anniversary! I'm sure you'll find ways to celebrate once everyone gets back...

Still haven't watched really any of Battlestar Galactica. One of these days.

it's our 18th anniversary tuhday... ain't the first we spent apart....

Well, at least you're apart for only a few days this time, and the phone still works.

I watched "Monster Garage goes to Iraq" tonight. That was where those sneak preview photos from MAJ Bart K. came from. Somehow, we've got to try to put the bite on Jesse James for our troop support project.

And speaking of Southern... I need a character name for a 14 or 15-year old boy, something reeeeeeeeally Southern, something he rolls he eyes and apologizes for ("It's a *family* name, a *Southern* family name") everytime he introduces himself, something that would lend itself to a fun nickname.

Yes, I'm doing nano-prep.

Morning OT - Excellent picture this A.M.; flags flying around town and down our street; would that it were so the rest of the year.

Morning G'nad - Congrats on your and mrsnad's 18th anniversary. Here's to many, many more.

Just 52 hours? See my friend, it creeps up on us all, one day at a time..:-)

Got in LOTS of trigger time on Saturday, steel targets, hanging and drop, that was series fun. Also shows I need more range time.

In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

God bless our veterans living and dead. God bless our current service men and women. And God bless America.

Thank you all who have served in the armed forces.

Papa's flag (that flew over the U.S. Capitol on his 65th birthday) is flying out front.

Sigh...I need a new grill...

Looked at 'em last night at Lowes, but with buyin' thescreendoor and theswingset, we just moved on.

However, I'm seriously thinking of going out to get a basic charcoal grill and maybe get a new gas grill at the end of the season.

That's what I'm thinkin'...

We still have Papa's old grill, which basically has two settings "hot" and "d@mn I burned my hands." It doesn't really "grill" as much as it just burns stuff over an open gas flame.

But I may grab a charcoal version by the weekend. Wife doesn't like it 'cause she can't grill stuff fer dinner quickly. But we got the George Foreman inside that works okay for that. Not the same, but it works.
