The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Life just ain't fair.

"You want fair, go to Puyallup in September!" Heh... that quote used to just really make our Vietnamese translator where I used to work roll on the floor laughing... something about the double meanings of words, or maybe it translated funny... was never sure :~D

Well, I did the right thing for one little orange kitty... not sure about our bank account :~D

Rosie and Ruthy have already offered to help. We appreciate that, ecurbh's not pleased to have this happen, with his job situation right now. Like I told him this morning "At least I'm not really into buying new shoes and fancy clothes all the time"

I was catching up with your discussion... How does this compare with OK? WA State Homeschool Law

I'm just curious, because that page seems to indicate it's rather easy. Despite our liberal reputation, I've found WA to be more reasonable than many state in a lot of areas, gun law being the one I'm most familiar with.

The only thing we are extra regulatory about is the environment... which in Steve's case, might be a good thing :~D

Here are some garden pictures...

Here's what the squash used to look like...remember that?

Here's what it looks like now!

Here's a happy squash!

And a not so happy squash...

Here's a squash I like to call Warf.

Ever since Steve graduated, he occasionally just drops off to sleep where ever he happens to be. He's supposed to be weeding...

Here's the teepee...I'm in the process of placing support branches across it.

Here's a couple of charts for comparison. Oklahoma homeschooling is completely unregulated; it's in our state constitution that the education of a child is completely under the authority of the parent alone. State and local government or school districts have no say.

ROTFL on Steve :~D Squash looks like a fun thing to grow, if it weren't for the fact you'd end up with ~squash~

My butternut squash vine, which is a winter squash like a pumpkin, grows about 6-8" a day!

And we love squash, so it's wonderful for us. Sliced with blue cheese dressing to dip it in, sauteed in butter, sliced, then deep fried and dipped in ranch dressing! Mmmm...pureed zukes make a great zucchini bread!

Oh dear...well, that's a bit of bad news, but it's good she got to the doctor in time. Keep us updated!

Poor little gal...she's gone through way more than she should have had to in her short life.

OK, everybody, time to pony up and pay for this sweet little kitty's ovariohysterectomy . . .

Consider it your contribution to the waifs-and-strays problem.

And consider a small donation to your local no-kill shelter or breed rescue society as well . . .

Thanks, AAM... A few have already said they'll help. Just for perspective, this is the (cough) tab this little munchkin is gonna run up. She's just so nice a kitty... she was nice even at the vets.

The first five lines are the Feline Leukemia/Feline Aids test (which was negative) and her regular vaccines, which they'll give if the surgery is successful.

The last five lines are the surgery, IV and Anesthesia.

It's a tricky surgery and recovery because she's so thin. They're going to put her on an IV for fluids, since he said "We're going to be taking 30-40% of her body mass."

The surgery's a big (cough) expensive, but he didn't charge me for the office call today, or the test for worms... So I think they were trying to be kind.

Those are very reasonable prices for a vet, IMHO.

The c-section is $250-ish? That's a bargain.

Especially since they didn't tack on any "emergency fees".

I'll be glad to help.

Thanks Ruthy :~D

We'd have done it anyway, but my husband who is more practical than myself was a bit worried about having to credit card it, with his job situation so up in the air. We appreciate the help. :~D

We definitely have to do something about that "stray cat" label where a proper kitty-name should be!

Even if it's something trite and painfully common...like "Punkin".
