Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Until the stars are all alight
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

*grin*
My gator would never eat anybody.
Mostly cuz I'd have his teeth pulled before he reached 4 feet. ;-)

Ahh...I figured I was missing a lot.
It's so nice to be back...just sitting here drinking coffee, not one single obligation...except I need to look over this resume...
I'll do it later.

Perhaps it means that Rutheee needs some new luggage, and maybe a pair of boots. :-)

Ok, gardeners...here's some sample pictures, taken this morning...
This is the pea trellis...it used to have collards planted down the middle but I harvested them and now there are two patio tomatoes planted here. I imagine with the heat and the gophers, the peas won't last much longer and since these tomatoes are red, the birds will be attracted to them, so the plan is to drape bird netting over the pea trellis to ward off the birds. You can't really see them, but each tomato is planted in a hardware cloth basket sunk in the ground.
This is where the spinach and radishes that were under the cold frame used to be. See, the lettuce and the carrots are still doing fine. I cleared out all the spinach remains and planted peppers. The hay will be used as mulch.
The four summer squashes
The four yellow tomato plants, which require no netting because birds don't seem attracted to the yellow color. These are in the hardware cloth bed. Also, a butternut squash in that right-hand corner of the bed and a row of cukes
Eggplant on the lower right, lavender on the lower left, onions fill the rest of the bed.

Daniel always looks either bored stiff or slightly insane in all of his pictures.
He didn't want to be involved in this one, as you can tell. *smile*

Remember how bent out of shape I'd get when Steve had to do the Creek Clean Up? Usually he had to do a weekend-long pollution collection event, then the final week or so of the semester would occur, then he'd have Creek Clean Up. I'd be pretty hacked off by the time Creek Clean Up came around, because he literally wasn't home for several weeks at a time, not even on the weekends!
Well, this year was a different story! He didn't have any class, was home more frequently during the semester and was actually done with school completely by the time this came up. So we went with him and participated in the clean up. I got a box of leftover bagels out of the deal.
Steve talking to the jedis about the clean up. (He's required to wear that hat.)
Here I am with the jedis in Cherry Red Fork Creek...cleaning.

Your garden looks very productive :~D
I have corn in a pot. and flowers... and that's all I need :~D
To: 2Jedismom
Looks great! I envy you your nice neat beds...maybe someday!
You'll hafta post pictures of the tomatoes once they start producing!
Birds, huh? I hadn't thought about that threat. Hopefully threat number one (Cisco) will chase away threat number two.
To: HairOfTheDog
If the beans I'm hopin' to plant produce a bunch, you can have some of those, too. And punkins. ;-)
To: RosieCotton
I don't think Hair ever had any problems with birds getting her maters...it just gets so terribly dry here. They seem to go for the maters more for the moisture than anything.

I'm not one for veggies anyhow, I just like to grow corn :~D
And I've never had birds go after tomatos. Maybe we just have different kind of birds... and squirrels :~D
To: 2Jedismom
So put out a bird bath :~D

The shirt, on the other hand, was his own choice.
;-)
They divided us up into groups and Steve was a group leader. All the group leaders had to wear those hats to identify themselves.

I will! I intend to, really! Steve has wanted one for ages and I'll likely get him one for Father's Day.
