Oh well....I need to get going. Gonna try to block some bunny holes in the chain link and find some non-gnawable fencing to put up around theraisedbeds.

Do you know who would have bay trees fersale around these parts?

Heh...there was a free frisbee at a garage sale last weekend, so I brought it home to try with Cisco.

Trouble is, I couldn't throw the thing worth a darn. He finally lost interest. Oops. And then it broke.

He's actually not the greatest at retrieving. He'll round something up - with balls he's funny as he'll run PAST them and push them back toward the center of the yard before picking them up - but he doesn't quite get the concept of bringing something directly to me and stopping to give it to me.

I bet what he really wants is for you to take all of them. Make him an offer... $30 - for all of them. We can figure out some use for the rest of 'em... maybe build you a little cover for the lawnmower.

Coyotes were close last night, weren't they? Or did you hear 'em?

I think Cisco slept through all the ruckus. Some guard dog he is...

He's herding the ball :~D But half of him wants to bring it back.

Ours are only half retreiver, so they only bring it halfway back... or they bring it back half the time. :~D

I didn't hear them last night... slept through it I guess. In fact, I was just mentioning that we hadn't heard them lately.

I got a bay tree at Longview Gardens a couple of weeks ago. I think you could find them at any garden center/nursery excluding the big box stores. I've just keep mine potted, so I don't know whether or not they could survive a winter outside. LSA

There's a phone number...which I presume means they prefer calls to e-mails. Guess I gotta wait and call when it'd be more polite to do so...nine or ten, I guess?

I've been hearing a lot of gunfire close by lately during the day, I'd sortof wondered if someone got them

*snicker*

It's tough bein' a mutt. ;-)

Usually he'll bring it kinda near me and then stand there wiggling all over...but with a slightly confused look. Poor baby.

There were some actually drawn-out howls this time. Sounded like maybe a smaller group, but close. I thought I heard someone yell at 'em, but I'm not sure which direction the sound was coming from.

Okay...

I killed the one I had last year. I think it was "hot pot" syndrome.

I just checked. Bay laurel is only hardy in zones 8-9; we're zone 5, so it would definitely have a hard time surviving the winter. I put it outside on the porch so it gets some sun, but not the scorching mid-day/late afternoon sun like I used to kill my potted tomato plants.

:-D

You did great with the discgolf disks. Actually that might be what is messing you up since those fly so much different. With a 'normal' disk you have to throw it with the left edge really low. Assuming you are throwing it right handed and hard. They have so much more lift than a discgolf one that they tend to roll right. Starting the throw with them banked to the left means their right roll just flattens them out and they go straight. The lighter your throw, the less you have to bank it to the left.

That and they are much more prone to curing right or left than the other kind so the discgolf discs tend to spoil you on distance, speed and accuracy.

Maybe it was on the other side of Littlerock this time.

Speaking of Cisco and his not being super bright in some instances...I've been calling him to come in for breakfast and he wasn't coming at ALL.

Finally found him at the back door, all upset because he couldn't figure out what he was supposed to do.

Heh...maybe I should get Cisco a few discgolf discs instead...the Border Collie at the park seemed to think those were OK...

Part of it is just that I have a big yard, but not *that* big...so I was trying *not* to throw it hard enough to go a long way...and it was just divebombing to one side or the other. Cisco wasn't impressed.

It's interesting with the frisbee, gypsy doesn't bring back the squeeky toys we throw in the back yard more than once or twice; the frisbee, each and every time. She may have played with one in her previous life since she knew exactly what to do.
